Some of the guides and content on this site assumes that your business is already digital ready. I.e. you’ve gone beyond posters and a chalkboard to promote your wares, and have set up your virtual stall on the internet high street.
But if you haven’t made that step yet, or if your web site looks a bit like amazon.com circa 2002.. then maybe AI can help you.

The tool we are suggesting here is Squarespace. They have been well established as a web site creation service that helps non-technical business owners get up an running online, and now they have a fairly decent AI offering to make it even easier. Other options are available and we are not affiliated with Squarespace. You should also check out Wix, Shopify or Duda.
Example
The example below is using Squarespace to create a website for a café / restaurant.
Step 1: Sign Up for Squarespace
First things first, you need to sign up for a Squarespace account. Head over to Squarespace.com and click on the “Get Started” button. You’ll be asked to enter your email and create a password. Easy, right?
Step 2: Choose a Template
Now comes the fun part—choosing a template! Squarespace has a bunch of sleek, modern templates to choose from. Since we’re building a website for a café, look for templates under the “Restaurants” or “Cafés” category. These templates are designed with the food and beverage industry in mind, making them perfect for showcasing your menu, location, and vibe.
Tip: Don’t stress too much about picking the perfect template. You can customize everything later, so just choose one that catches your eye.
Step 3: Let AI Help You Customize
Once you’ve picked your template, Squarespace will prompt you to customize it. Here’s where the AI magic happens. Squarespace uses AI to suggest layout changes, color schemes, and font pairings based on the look and feel you want for your café.
You’ll see a pop-up asking you a few simple questions like, “What’s your website about?” or “What style are you going for?” Based on your answers, the AI will make smart suggestions to tailor the design to your needs.
Example: If you tell Squarespace that you’re running a cozy, artisanal coffee shop, the AI might suggest warm colors, rustic fonts, and a layout that highlights your menu and location.
Step 4: Add Your Content
Now it’s time to add your content. Squarespace makes it super simple to upload images, write text, and create pages. Start with the basics:
- Home Page: Use the AI’s suggested layout or drag and drop elements like a welcome message, an image of your café, and a call-to-action button (like “View Our Menu”).
- Menu Page: Upload photos of your dishes and drinks, and type in your menu items. The AI will format everything beautifully, so it looks great on any device.
- About Page: Tell your story. Why did you start your café? What makes it unique? The AI can even help you write this if you’re stuck.
- Contact Page: Add your café’s address, phone number, and opening hours. The AI will automatically suggest adding a map so customers can find you easily.
Step 5: Optimize for Mobile
Most of your customers will probably check out your website on their phones, so it’s crucial that it looks great on mobile. Squarespace’s AI automatically optimizes your site for mobile devices, but it’s always a good idea to preview it yourself.
Simply click on the mobile preview button, and you’ll see how your website looks on a smartphone. Make any tweaks if necessary.
Step 6: Launch Your Website
Once you’re happy with how everything looks, it’s time to go live! Squarespace makes this easy—just click “Publish,” and your website will be online in seconds.
Before you hit that button, though, don’t forget to double-check everything. Run through your site like a customer would. Click on all the links, proofread your text, and make sure your images are loading properly.
Step 7: Promote Your New Website
Congrats, your website is live! Now it’s time to spread the word. Share your new site on social media, update your Google My Business listing, and maybe even send out an email to your customers. The more people know about your site, the more traffic you’ll get!
Tip: Squarespace’s AI can also help you with SEO (Search Engine Optimization). It will suggest keywords and phrases to include on your site so that more people can find you through Google.
Conclusion & Caveats
- The steps above are simplified. Yes you can create a website using these AI tools, but you may require a lot of extra time to customise aspects of the layout and tweak things to your preference. don’t estimate this to be a 30 minute job. You may take a week of evenings to be up and running if you are doing it all yourself.
- There are other things to consider regarding your web presence. i.e. do you want your own dedicated domain name. Often worth the small investment required to establish a unique presence and custom email addresses etc. (try GoDaddy to sort that bit out)
- Keep the content simple. if you are a café people want to see a menu, be able to make a reservation and find you in the physical world (a map helps) They don’t need a biography of your cat or your thoughts on politics. Save that for your Facebook page.
- Don’t be afraid to ask for help. you can quite easily find some willing ‘gig worker’ online who can help to tweak the bits of your site you can’t make work. Or even someone who could build it all for you. Try Fiverr, Freelancer.com or upwork (Hint: get GenAI to help word the job description to give plenty of detail.)
- some of the services are better suited to different business types – do your research (using your favourite GenAI tool) and pick one which fits your needs.
